FAQ

All 21 of them, grouped so you can find yours. Every one is here because somebody actually asked it.

Visiting

Hours, finding us, and how an evening works.

2 questions

When are you open?

Every day, 1 PM to 4 AM. The kitchen runs shorter hours than the tables do, 4 PM to 3 AM, so come any time to play and after it opens if you want to eat.

Where exactly are you?

46M8+6Q9 - Al Qouz Ind.third - Al Quoz - Dubai. Al Quoz is an industrial district, so it is worth following the map rather than the street name: the location page has one, along with the phone number if you end up circling.

What it costs

Every charge there is, and when it is cheaper.

3 questions

Do I have to pay separately to play board games?

No, there is no entrance fee. Spend 47 AED each in the kitchen on whatever you like, food, coffee or drinks, and the games are yours for as long as you want them. No hourly rate and no time limit.

Is the 47 AED per person or for the table?

Per person. Four of you playing means four times 47 AED spent in the kitchen, and then the whole library is open to all four of you for the rest of the night.

What does a Dungeons & Dragons session cost?

D&D is 25 AED a head to join, plus a 35 AED minimum spend each in the kitchen, and the session runs as long as it runs. It is priced on its own because it has its own private room.

The kitchen, ordering, and the minimum spend.

5 questions

Is the kitchen open the whole time you are?

No. We are open 1 PM to 4 AM and the kitchen runs 4 PM to 3 AM, so there are a few hours at either end where the tables are going and the kitchen is not.

How do I order?

Press the button on your table and someone will come over to take your order. There is no queueing at a counter.

How does paying work?

You pay on your way out, and all you need to give is your name. We keep track of what you ordered, so there is no bill to look after during the evening.

Can I move to another table during the evening?

As often as you like. Your order follows you, so joining another game or a bigger group never complicates what you owe.

Do the menu prices include VAT?

Yes. The price on the menu is the price you pay.

Billiard

Tables, rates and tournaments.

2 questions

Does that cover billiard as well?

No. Billiard is charged by the table, at 59 AED an hour, or 45 AED an hour for members and regular players, however many of you are playing. Your kitchen spend covers the board games only.

Is billiard ever cheaper?

Yes, twice over. Happy hour takes 40% off the table rate every day from 1 PM to 5 PM. And if you are practising alone, it is 60% off, whenever a table is free.

Board games

The shelves, and bringing your own.

2 questions

How many board games are there?

227 on the shelves, and the list is on the games page with filters for how many of you there are and how long you have got. It is one of the largest public collections in the UAE, and it grows.

Can I bring my own board game?

Please do, and there is no charge for playing it. Plenty of regulars bring something new for everyone else to try.

Events

What runs weekly, and hearing about it first.

2 questions

What runs every week?

Billiard tournaments on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. Catan community night every Tuesday at 7 PM, and Blood on the Clocktower every Wednesday at 7:30 PM. Tournament nights can move for holidays and championships, so it is worth checking before you set out.

How do I hear about events?

They go up on the events page, and the WhatsApp community hears first. There are separate groups for billiard and for board games, so ask Hiba, our manager, to add you to whichever you want, or ring 055 606 3002.

Groups and bookings

Parties, companies and the private room.

3 questions

Is there a private room?

Yes, built for Dungeons & Dragons campaigns so a session can run as long as it runs without a party at the next table. When no campaign is in it, it does the same job for a meeting, a briefing or a celebration that wants its own door.

Can I book the venue for a company event or a birthday?

Yes, and we do it often: team building, company gatherings, birthdays, private celebrations, game nights and custom tournaments. Price depends on how many of you there are, how long, catering and what you want to play, so ring 055 606 3002 and we will put a package together.

Can I run my own event or tournament here?

Yes, and plenty of people do. Tell us what you have in mind and we will help you find a night that is not already busy, put it in front of the community, and set the room up for however many turn up.

Coming along

Turning up alone, and being taught.

2 questions

Can I come on my own?

Yes, and people do it every week. Game nights in particular are built for it: you sit down at a table that needs another player and that is the whole introduction. Nobody has to arrive with a group to end up in a game.

What if I do not know how to play?

Then someone teaches you, which is how most people here learned. Say so when you sit down and the table will walk you through it. The weekly nights are the easiest way in, because everyone at them expects to be explaining the rules to somebody.

Not here?

Ask us, and it gets added

A few things get asked often that we would rather answer properly than guess at in public: whether to book a table on a busy night, dietary options, and whether there is a minimum age. Ring or message and you will get a straight answer.
