How board games work here

Good questions

Questions about the games

What it costs, and whether you can bring your own.

Every question, in one place
Do I have to pay separately to play board games?

No, there is no entrance fee. Spend 47 AED each in the kitchen on whatever you like, food, coffee or drinks, and the games are yours for as long as you want them. No hourly rate and no time limit.

Is the 47 AED per person or for the table?

Per person. Four of you playing means four times 47 AED spent in the kitchen, and then the whole library is open to all four of you for the rest of the night.

How many board games are there?

227 on the shelves, and the list is on the games page with filters for how many of you there are and how long you have got. It is one of the largest public collections in the UAE, and it grows.

Can I bring my own board game?

Please do, and there is no charge for playing it. Plenty of regulars bring something new for everyone else to try.

Is there a private room?

Yes, built for Dungeons & Dragons campaigns so a session can run as long as it runs without a party at the next table. When no campaign is in it, it does the same job for a meeting, a briefing or a celebration that wants its own door.

What if I do not know how to play?

Then someone teaches you, which is how most people here learned. Say so when you sit down and the table will walk you through it. The weekly nights are the easiest way in, because everyone at them expects to be explaining the rules to somebody.

What runs every week?

Billiard tournaments on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. Catan community night every Tuesday at 7 PM, and Blood on the Clocktower every Wednesday at 7:30 PM. Tournament nights can move for holidays and championships, so it is worth checking before you set out.
